Blogging Inside Your Site

by
"Organic Traffic" is what we call those visitors that found your website through searching any engine. The person looked for a keyword phrase and your website appeared in the search results. These visitors are your organic visitors, and they do not cost any money when they click; well, they don't cost you any money at the time of the click, but it did cost money in the form of time and labor to get you listed on page 1 of the search results.

Considering the number of jewelry stores listed in the JBT, we know that very few of them understand the needed search engine optimization it takes to get to page 1 of the search results. Once you achieve high placement, you will continue to receive free organic visitors as long as one of your competitors doesn't use their own SEO to knock you out of the top spot.

We've seen more and more users typing complete questions into Google instead of just 2 or 3 search words. Google's ability to match long questions to exact web pages seems to get better every day.

You will get a faster answer if you search for "what is the price for a 1 carat diamond ring" instead of "1 ct diamond ring price." Although, if you yourself want to capture that type of organic traffic, you need to have those answers on your website.

The best ways to add those answers to your website is through a blog. The best blog is one that is within your website, rather than a separate blog hosted for free on WordPress or Blogger. You should set it up as the subdirectory /blog/; for example www.jewelrystore.com/blog.

Setting up the blog this way allows Google to correctly associate your store website and product catalog to all the great information in the blog. Your blog will always attract more organic traffic than the rest of your website, so you will need to eventually learn how to funnel your visitors from your informational blog into your selling pages.

Adding informational pages to your site will take a while. Don't try to rush the creative writing process because you probably will not know what your customers are looking for (and therefore what to blog about) unless you examine your analytics.

Take a look at the keywords recorded in your analytics for blog entry ideas. If done correctly, on-site blogging is one of the best ways to crush your local competitor in the SERPs.
